Cannot input anything on ChromiumOS with 'Mozc IME' extensions

Reported by dsdeb...@gmail.com, Apr 9 2018

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/66.0.3359.26 Safari/537.36
Platform: 10559.0.2018_04_09_1756 developer-build sentry

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Login as guest.
2. Add Japanese language and 'Google Japanese Input' (same issue with US and Japanese keyboard)
3. Switch to 'Google Japanese Input'.

What is the expected behavior?

What went wrong?
Cannot input anything and even shortcuts (such as 'Ctrl-t') do not work. Same issue with Chinese input, with an earlier and released version of ChromiumOS (release-R66-10452.B), and on another Chromebook. However, this works fine with ChromeOS as guest (which uses 'Chrome OS XKB' and not 'Mozc IME' extensions).

I had a look at log files but could not find anything so I'm not sure how to debug this issue.

Did this work before? No

Chrome version: 67.0.3390.0 Channel: n/a
OS Version: 67.0.3390.0

As the version of mozc in ChromiumOS sources is quite old, I tried to compile the NaCl one from https://github.com/google/mozc and then installed it (version: 2.23.2815.104).

When adding this input method and switching to it, I get a 'NativeClient: NaCl module crashed' error message (stack trace: 'nacl_mozc.html:0 (anonymous function)') and the same problem as before (eg unable to input anything). I could not find anything else.

Any help about how to debug this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, is this happening on Chrome OS (official release) or Chromium OS (open source version)?

+IME extension developers, have you seen this issue?

This problem happens on ChromiumOS.

Thanks for your response!
As far as I know, IME extensions on Chromium OS are not updated recently (at least for a year?). So, I don't have any idea about the crash.

I also have no idea about how to compile the open source version of mozc. Can someone in IME team take a look at this?

+komatsu@ who may know how to build the legacy version of Mozc IME extension.

Also +satorux@.
Japanese input seems to be working with US keyboard on yesterday's ArnoldtheBat daily build for R69 (https://chromium.arnoldthebat.co.uk/daily//Camd64OS-20180627010101.img.7z), along with other Asian languages like Pinyin etc.
However, this is true ONLY for logged in users, the above bug is still reproducible in Guest Mode
