Only first 500 CSS columns are rendered

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_3) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/65.0.3325.181 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. https://codepen.io/anon/pen/pLxozK
2. See that page 500 is the last renderen column while there is 10 more elements in the DOM.

What is the expected behavior?
All columns to be rendered

What went wrong?
Only first 500 columns is rendered

Did this work before? N/A 

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 65.0.3325.181  Channel: stable
OS Version: OS X 10.13.3

Tested the issue on chrome reported version 65.0.3325.181 using Mac 10.12.6 with steps mentioned below:
1) Launched chrome reported version and navigated to URL: https://codepen.io/anon/pen/pLxozK
2) On the codepen able to see the columns upto 500 and remaining seems blank
Observations: Also tested the issue on latest canary(67.0.3393.4) and beta(66.0.3359.81), seen different behaviour i.e., upto page 263 and from there to page 509 able to see vertically.

@Reporter: Please find the attached screencast for your reference and let us know how to proceed on this issue, any further inputs on it will be more helpful.

Able to reproduce the issue on chrome reported version 65.0.3325.181 using Mac 10.12.6, Windows-10 & Ubuntu 14.04 with codepen: https://codepen.io/anon/pen/pLxozK given in comment#0. As already mentioned in comment#2, seen different behaviour on latest chrome Beta# 66.0.3359.117 & chrome# 68.0.3398.0(please find attached screencast in comment#2), hence marking it as untriaged.

Could anyone from the Blink>CSS team have a look at this issue.

Yes, intentional. Introduced by the fix for  bug 808189 . I think max 500 columns is too aggressive, but this is what we settled on back then. I really think we should increase the limit to 5000, 10000, or something like that.
