Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_3) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/67.0.3386.1 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. NA 2. 3. What is the expected behavior? What went wrong? This is a feature request. I'm the developer of the ColorfulTabs Firefox Addon. I've waited many years to see if Chromium will expose some Tab / Theme API to allow changing the color of tabs. With this bug filing, I'm humbly trying to explore the feasibility of such an API that would allow ColorfulTabs to be ported to Chrome. Unique colors per tab allows a sub-conscious association with the tab and helps aid identification as well as usability and UX. ColorfulTabs has been very popular with the Firefox users and has also been distributed with tech magazines like Chip.de. The UX aspects of this functionality are mentioned here: https://blog.mozilla.org/labs/2006/11/chromatabs/ As of now a buggy workaround is to insert a content script and create a pseudo-tab strip that tries to duplicate the tabs' functionality. I hope we can someday natively support ColorfulTabs. Did this work before? No Does this work in other browsers? Yes Chrome version: 67.0.3386.1 Channel: dev OS Version: OS X 10.13.3 Flash Version:

This may not be feasible UX-design-wise in Material Refresh. But the first step would probably be to see whether the extensions API folks think this is a good idea.

Looks like the new material design tabs are about to land on the stable branch. Would be good to hear from extensions API team. Are they copied on this issue?

It has the right component; I assume they triage that component occasionally.

This feature is probably not in line with Chrome's general UI aesthetic. Over to bklmn@chromium.org for more input.
