MTP file transfer not working in android 8 with chrome book OS: Version 65.0.332 - Arul J

Reported by ajagan...@gmail.com, Apr 4 2018

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 10323.62.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/65.0.3325.184 Safari/537.36
Platform: 10323.62.0 (Official Build) stable-channel edgar

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Connect the android phone with USB cable to Chromebook
2. Choose MTP file transfer option in the phone USB settings
3. Try copying any file (pdf or mp3) to phone's folder.

What is the expected behavior?
Copying a file from chromebook to android 8 phone should happen as before.

What went wrong?
Everything was good till i upgraded my android phone to version 8. After the upgrade, now i cannot transfer any file (music, photo or pdfs) from my chromebook to the phone. Not sure, what is changed?, When i connect phone with USB cable to my chromebook, I see the charging options coming in the phone, i choose MTP file transfer mode, afterwards, I see my phone connected in the chromebook Files app and also could see all the items in the phone, but i cannot copy any items to phone. Copy is only one way (phone to chromebook) but not (Chromebook to Phone). This is rediculous, people are suggesting use Google drive, but why i should use Google drive?. This was working feature that allowed me to copy directly from Chromebook to phone, but now this stopped working. I switched to Google because of the simplicity of usage, but now it is increasingly becoming complex and too much door locks. The same works fine in windows. Please look into it. -Arul J. (Screenshot attached)

Did this work before? Yes Android 7.0 and Chrome 64

Chrome version: 65.0.3325.184 Channel: stable
OS Version: 10323.62.0
Flash Version:

As long as both the chromebook and my phone are trusted devices in gmail account profile, i should be allowed to transfer data between the devices with out any security checks regardless of the mode (USB, Cloud or Bluetooth).

I am sorry you face such an issue with your chromebook!

I actually see the same issue with Nexus 6P on Android 7.0 and with ChromeOS 64:
 - Copying chromebook -> phone results in the same error message as in the screenshot;
 - Copying phone -> chromebook works fine.

Not related to Chrome sync though, redirecting to FileManager.
