Thanks for the report. Please follow the below steps for WebView --

In Android N the WebView and Chrome packages were combined in order to reduce the update size for users. Updating Chrome also updates WebView. This means that in the Play store the WebView package will appear to be permanently disabled. The Play store WebView entry is only relevant for users with older operating systems, and users who have decided to disable Chrome.

If you need, or are being asked by an application, to update WebView, the action you should take now is to UPDATE CHROME. This should resolve any issues you are currently experiencing.

We would also like to understand what led you to file this bug so that we can reduce the number of users experiencing this issue and work with application developers to direct users to the correct Play store page.

If an application has directed you to update WebView, and sent you to the WebView page in the Play store to do so, please comment on this bug to tell us which application did so.

Finally, if updating Chrome does not stop the application from redirecting you to the Play store, please also provide that information on this bug.

Thanks!!
Hi, the reason I was trying to update WebView was for the Android PS4 Second Screen app from Sony. It does not work on my LG G6 and on the user comments they state that Android WebView is required for that app to function. When I saw that my WebView was disabled, I assumed this was the issue preventing that app from working. When the PS4 Second Screen app connects to my PS4, it brings up a screen with a text box and keyboard to enter a code for a split second, then it immediately kicks back to the main page with no way to access that connection screen. However I suppose that WebView is not the issue unless that app is using an old architecture and somehow pointing directly to Android WebView and not Chrome. Thank you for your response.
Actually you can see directly on the description for the app PS4 Second Screen by Sony it specifically says to update Android WebView and includes a link to WebView on the Google Play Store.

That description is wrong for Android N or later. You should update chrome instead.

The app definitely does not need WebView specifically - the version provided in Chrome is exactly the same and the app doesn't get to choose for itself. Enabling WebView is not going to help - the issue with the app is something else.

We should reach out to the developer via devrel and get them to update that text. Nate, you did this for another app IIRC, could you maybe look at this?

Thanks for the clear description and screenshots, sophie.j.rousselle@! I'll kick off the devrel process today and get Sony to fix that documentation in their app (to point to the correct package).
Sony has updated their playstore description, so it no longer points to the wrong page.
