visual glitches when opening Chrome on MacOS

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_11_6) AppleWebKit/604.5.6 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/11.0.3 Safari/604.5.6

Example URL:
chrome://settings/

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open Chrome
2. visit chrome://settings/
3. observe artifacts

What is the expected behavior?
the page renders the page content without artifacts

What went wrong?
The page content is distorted and horizontally stretched.  looks like some graphics bug.  Observed this on a MacBook Air running MacOS 10.11.6 with Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB

Unable to reproduce this issue on 65.0.3325.181 using Mac 10.13.3 and Mac 10.12.6 with steps mentioned in comment#0. Attaching chrome://gpu info.

NOTE: ET/Inhouse team do not have Mac 10.11.6 to test this issue there.

@Reporter: Does launching chrome with --disable-gpu-rasterization flag resolves your issue?

This issue looks similar to  issue 794819 . Hence cc'ing kbr@ from that bug for further inputs on this issue.

This is definitely the same problem as  Issue 794819 . Let me try to reproduce here.

Submitter, FYI, upgrading your OS will solve this problem.

Submitter: please always provide the contents of Chrome's about:gpu page when filing graphics-related bugs, as the template requests. Even though Chrome's rendering may be broken, pressing Command-A , Command-C and then Command-V in another browser to update this bug report will work.

Here is the same from our testing machine. Can not reproduce. Make sure you aren't passing any arguments like --ignore-gpu-blacklist to Chrome.

hi @sindu, sorry for the delayed reply. yes, if I launch Chrome like this

`open -a Google\ Chrome --args --disable-gpu-rasterization`

then the issue does not appear.  the page renders like it normally would, without artifacts.

--ignore-gpu-blacklist is being passed. This prevents Chrome's blacklist from working. Please remove this command line flag and Chrome will render correctly.

micah.stubbs@: your comment and mine collided. I still need to see the output of about:gpu with no command line flags specified, neither --ignore-gpu-blacklist nor --disable-gpu-rasterization , and need to know whether Chrome renders correctly in this configuration.

It may be helpful if you launch Chrome with a fresh user profile, e.g. from the command line:

micah.stubbs@: I think the root cause is that you were passing --ignore-gpu-blacklist. Unless there's something really strange going on with experiments with GPU rasterization, launching Chrome without any command line arguments should render the same as with --user-data-dir=/tmp/t1 .

"--ignore-gpu-blacklist is being passed. This prevents Chrome's blacklist from working. Please remove this command line flag and Chrome will render correctly."

How do I remove a command line flag?

If you haven't explicitly passed it then go to about:flags and click the "Reset All to Default" button at the top, then restart your browser.
