Printed version of United Airlines website is grayscale and low resolution |
|||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version : 65.0.3325.162 OS Version: 10.0 URLs (if applicable) : https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/flight-search/book-a-flight/confirmation/rev?CartId=XXXXXXXXXX - note I've X'd out the cart ID so you can't access my flight :) I have a confirmation screen for a flight I just booked (screenshot1). When I go to print to a PDF, the version it shows is grayscale and very low resolution (screenshot2). And indeed, the saved PDF is also grayscale and low resolution (screenshot3). If I choose to print to a real printer, the same issue happens. I have verified "Color" is chosen in the print settings and that the quality is high (600 or 1200 dpi, doesn't seem to make a difference). I haven't been able to repro this on other sites.

rschoen@ Thanks for the issue. As color printer is not available at TE end to test this issue, adding TE-NeedsTriageFromHYD label and requesting someone from Inhouse team to look into this issue. Thanks..

I never actually printed the website out to paper - the problem exists in print preview, and in the "printed" PDF when you choose to print to PDF. I have no idea if it exists when you actually print the page (though I assume so).

Do you have a copy of the webpage saved somewhere? I wonder if the page is in an iframe or something like that.

Unfortunately I don't have a saved copy, only the "printed" PDF. Next time I book a ticket I'll save it.

Definitely save a copy next time. I noticed on bug 826385 , the output is also pixelated. Very likely because the <div> has a CSS filter. Maybe the page in this bug report has some similar print-specific CSS that's triggering this.

Adding needs-feedback label as per C#5 as the saved page will be helpful to triage this further. Thanks!!

This is due to the use of a CSS filter. Attached is a minimum test case. The page really is not meant to be printed anyway. Even if the pixelation gets fixed, the page layout is still terrible. You can see the print button on the webpage in screenshot1.png that links to a printable version of the receipt.

Can we produce a document on best practices for printing with Chrome? i.e.: never use CSS filters, or anything that triggers Skia's SkCanvas::saveLayer(). |
