@susan.boorgula@chromium.org I've tried reinstalling Chrome with a guest profile and with no extensions and it still uses a lot of RAM and CPU, I even tried restarting Windows and it's still the same, but for some reason I don't have error reports in Chrome Canary and it runs a little better then the stable version

stefankoncar321@ Thanks for the update Retested the issue on Windows 10 and Mac OS 10.13.3 on the reported version 65.0.3325.181 and the latest Canary 67.0.3390.0 and unable to reproduce the issue. Cannot observe any increase in CPU and RAM while watching videos on Youtube. As this issue is not reproducible at TE end, adding 'Internals>GPU' component and 'TE-NeedsTriageHelp' label for further help in triaging. Thanks..

It probably should be a DLOG, but it does indicate a mismatch between what the startup feature detection discovered and what the decoder was able to actually do. This message means that we wasted IPC on a call that was never going to work. There are some paths that unconditionally make an IPC call (WebRTC for example), so in those cases it is spammy.

I can't tell from the screenshot and earlier video what all may be going on in other chrome tabs. Do you observe this behavior after a reboot with just the one tab doing video playback running? I noticed that your processor is the Athlon II X2 250, which Wikipedia says came out in ~2010. This is on the older end of the hardware spectrum and video playback may simply be pretty taxing. I also noticed that your driver is from 2-26-2016. Can you check if a newer driver is available and whether it resolves your issue? Your machine reports that it has HW decode available for h264, but that may not be true in practice. You can paste the content of chrome://media-internals here and we can say for sure (after playback starts, click the "player" on the internals page. recommend doing this with just one tab open doing playback). I also see the gpu internals mentions a number of workarounds are applied for the older amd chip (e.g. GpuMemoryBuffers, rasterization, etc). It may be that your getting hw decode but these other factors (or even driver bugs) are still causing the performance.

Thanks for the additional details. I can confirm you're getting HW accelerated decoding for H264 and SW decoding for VP9. Thats typical. There's no additional indication that your HW decoding is misbehaving (at least, not beyond what I mentioned in comment #23). HW decoding is not always better, but if you get better performance from H264 playbacks, I'd stick to that. I notice that your VP9 stream is 1080p, in spite of having a lot of stuttering. This may be because you've manually selected 1080p on the youtube site (gear icon). I'd recommend going back to the "auto" setting in hopes that YT will choose a smoother size. Looking back at the video from your first report, I see your overall CPU usage is high, but CPU usage from chrome averages out to around 38%. This is not unexpected during video playback, especially for older hardware. Your memory usage is on the higher side, but is not growing much during the video playback and doesn't seem to drop when video finishes. Dividing your total usage by the 11 tabs you have open, we get ~142 MB per tab. Not crazy. In short, I think your older HW is the issue. Recommend closing as "working as intended".

1GB of RAM and 90% CPU usage by Chrome is not ok, it uses a lot of RAM because since the newer updates Chrome has a memory leak and the browser should also be light as possible, I have around 60-70% CPU usage on Edge and Firefox and it never had above 100MB RAM usage on those browsers so you really need fix Chrome

I just found out that the Adblock Plus extension is using almost 200MB of RAM and I sent and email to Adblock Plus and they told me that they are working to fix this issue
