Scroll wheel gets disabled after using track pad (similar to issue 704410)

Issue description
Chrome Version : Version 66.0.3359.10 (Official Build) dev (32-bit)
URLs (if applicable) :
Other browsers tested:
Add OK or FAIL, along with the version, after other browsers where you
have tested this issue:
Safari:
Firefox:
Edge:
What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Open a web page on a Chromebook using a BT mouse in Chrome browser.
(2) Scroll using track pad of Chromebook.
(3) Attempt to scroll using mouse's scroll wheel
What is the expected result? Scrolling with wheel should scroll the page in the current tab.
What happens instead? Scrolling with the mouse's scroll wheelnstops working in that tab, on that page after using the track pad to scroll. Opening the page in a duplicate tab using CTRL-middle-click on the refresh button of the Chrome browser restores scroll wheel action until the track pad is used to scroll in the current tab again.
Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
In issue 704410 , this bug was reported to be fixed. I continue to experience the problem in the current version of Chrome on a Chromebook.

As per comment#0, issue seems related to Chromebook, hence adding appropriate OS label to it. Thanks!

I mentioned the Chromebook because that is where I've experienced the problem. However, there are reports on the Google Help Forum, as recently as yesterday, that this problem exists in Window 10. I think it might be a browser issue. Here's a link to one discussion: https://productforums.google.com/forum/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer#!msg/chrome/camZVtTiGyo/7S8kcXxeBAAJ

Someone on the product forum discovered that using auto scroll (middle click and move) restores scroll wheel action. I added the AutoScroll (ver. 4.8, by kaescripts.blogspot.com) extension to Chrome in Chrome OS, and using it restores the scroll wheel, but only when invoked using ctrl-left or ctrl-middle. Using just the middle button auto scrolled, but did not restore the scroll wheel. I hope this helps figure out this bug.

re comment #3: tjggriffin1@ what you saw in the forum discussion is a different issue. There are two separate issues here: 1-On ChromeOS only if you scroll with trackpad and then try to scroll with wheel, the wheel scrolling doesn't work. 2- On Windows, Linux,ChromeOS on some websites scrolling with wheel stops working, and it is independent from using trackpad. This issue is more like crbug.com/797708 or crbug.com/823765

Thank you, sahel@. After reading those bugs, I tried to repro and could not. But that's there, not here. :) After a couple of people pointed out that pressing a key, like CTRL or Up, will restore mouse scrolling. I tried all keys and found any key will restore scrolling, except un-shifted function key (top row). This includes letters. Also tapping the trackpad or swiping with one finger restores scrolling. |
