stops rendering multi-col contents after first 499 columns

Reported by thebeast...@gmail.com, Mar 21 2018

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_3) AppleWebKit/604.5.6 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/11.0.3 Safari/604.5.6

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Resize Chrome browser (slightly larger than minimum size)
2. Visit https://hyperionics.com/test/LoremIpsum.html (test page borrowd from https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=797591)
3. Open Developer Tools > Elements and confirm that `column-count` value is greater than 500
4. Scroll horizontally to view 500+th columns

What is the expected behavior?
Correctly rendered contents

What went wrong?
v65 shows blank columns
v66 will show 499th column repeatedly

Did this work before? Yes v64

Chrome version: 65.0.3325.162 Channel: stable
OS Version: OS X 10.13.3

We intentionally clamp the actual column-count value. Last touched by https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/898438 , but there was a 500 limit prior to that as well.
mstensho@,

I wouldn't know if there was 500 limit before, because I've never actually experienced this problem before v65 was released.

Maybe `At the same time, limit (what we consider to be) illegitimate reasons even more brutally.` this clause is related to the change of behavior.

I am sure the change was made for a good reason, but for some of us out here *ALL* columns need to be visible - for example when using Android System Webview to display ePub contents.

Is there any chance this 500 limit could be changed in any way?

Thank you.

We have experimented with various limits in the past. I think this is a test case that demonstrates that a 500 column limit is too aggressive in some cases.
