CTRL randomly triggered on my corp chromebooks

Project Member Reported by stefc@google.com, Mar 16 2018

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 10176.76.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3282.190 Safari/537.36
Platform: 10176.76.0 (Official Build) stable-channel eve

Steps to reproduce the problem:
I have not found a way to identify the set of actions that could potentially trigger this behaviour so I cannot describe step to reproduce the issue. Maybe it has nothing to do prior user actions.

What is the expected behavior?
CTRL is only trigger when actually pressing the physical key.

What went wrong?
Randomly, every couple of weeks or so, my CTRL is active w/o me pressing the key. Reboot is the only solution (a few times, hitting 100X on CTRL rapidly fixed the issue). This is really painful since suddently my keyboard act if you hard CTRL pressed. For example, if was typing 'w', it suddenly starts closing my tabs/windows and it happen to me a few times in meetings when I had Hangouts open. Obviously, I had other inconveniences with other CTRL-* combo.

I have put up with it for 1 on my corp Pixel 2 thinking that this was HW related and that I would wait for a new laptop. Unfortunately, it's also happening on my recently acquired Pixelbook so it might be happening at the firmware/software level.

Side note: I only have installed the minimum corp (Google) extensions and none of them seems to have CTRL override features.

Did this work before? No
