HTC Mail crashes with latest chrome update when pressing "Reply"

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Update chrome in playstore
2. open htc mail, pick any mail and hit reply
3. htc mail will fc
4. uninstall chrome updates from playstore to factory version
5. htc mail won't fc anymore

What is the expected behavior?
Should be able to reply to mails without crashing

What went wrong?
HTC Mail force closes with latest chrome update in palystore

Did this work before? Yes 64.0.3282.137

Chrome version: 65.0.3325.109  Channel: stable
OS Version: 8.0
Flash Version: 

Started with 65.x, installing 64.x and it works.

This behavior also happens on my HTC U11, running Android 7.1.1.  When updating Chrome past version 64.x (meaning v65.x), HTC Mail will force close when clicking "Reply", or "Reply all".

When I use the latest Chrome v64, both "Reply" and "Reply All" work as expected, and I can send replies just fine.

My log makes it look like it has something to do with WebView.
