Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_3) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3282.186 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Install any Chrome Extension with "tabs" permission 2. Open chrome://extensions/ 3. Click on Permissions for the extension 4. Chrome require permission for "Čtení vaší historie procházení" which is translation for "Read your browsing history" What is the expected behavior? What went wrong? This should be translated correctly by Czech translation "Access your browsing activity" -> "Povolit přístup k vaší aktivitě procházení" Did this work before? No Does this work in other browsers? Yes Chrome version: 64.0.3282.186 Channel: stable OS Version: OS X 10.13.3 Flash Version:

But the original English string is indeed "Read your browsing history", not "Access your browsing history". https://cs.chromium.org/chromium/src/chrome/app/generated_resources.grd?l=3562&rcl=c50c3b15ccd58e249be67d32670bae421e3f77c2 Is the issue here that it is translated to "access", or it is the issue here that it is translated to "read"?

Acoarding to third row in the table visible at https://developer.chrome.com/apps/permission_warnings This should be "Access your browsing activity". I am using only tabs permission to access chrome.tabs API to open a new tab and establish a connection between my background script and content script. I do not require any history reading and this might scare users away from my extension. So based on the implementation it seems like the documentation https://developer.chrome.com/apps/permission_warnings is wrong. And the translation is correct.

Creating a new tab (chrome.tabs.create) does not need the "tabs" permission. I also do not think it is needed for communicating with the content script (unless you must query the tabs for getting the tab ID, but you usually do not need that, because you send a message from the content script to the background page and this way you get the tab ID, or just reply/respond to that message). So I am not sure you need that permission, but this is a discussion for https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/d/forum/chromium-extensions or stackoverflow.com rather than the issue tracker. Also, "access" sounds like a higher privilege than "read", to me, anyway. "access" could mean "read and modify", while "read" is only, well, "read".
