Many media_engagement preferences cause slow startup

Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_3) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3282.186 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: Have a profile with a very large number of sites stored under media_engagement (profile.content_settings.exceptions.media_engagement). In my case, there were 2552 sites listed under media_engagement, causing the Preferences JSON file to be roughly 650 KB. What is the expected behavior? What went wrong? Starting the browser or opening an Incognito window with this profile active took an abnormally long time -- roughly 5-6 seconds. The same action was effectively instantaneous with another profile. Removing the media_engagement key from the Preferences file (while leaving the rest of the file intact) restored expected performance. Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 64.0.3282.186 Channel: stable OS Version: OS X 10.13.3 Flash Version: I can't say exactly when this started, but it seems as though something changed recently. The contents of the media_engagement hash include some sites I hadn't visited in months, but the performance issues seem more recent.

This isn't a problem with any particular page or content, but with the overall behaviour of the browser.

There is a similar bug to this at http://crbug.com/814127 which seems to have resolved itself. Please can you try again and confirm if this is still an issue?

Launching M65 with a copy of my old profile causes the media_engagement settings to be trimmed down pretty aggressively, and window opening is as fast as expected. I'm not sure if this is because something changed or because that profile hasn't been used in a month, though.

Yes this is expected.

Becca, do you mean "it's expected that it was slow because it wasn't being pruned properly, but that's fixed now so it's okay", or something else? Was it slow because the incognito profile creation has to re-read all the prefs or similar? |

, Mar 4 2018Here's a representative example of the data that was in my media_engagement. (The original wasn't pretty-printed, of course.)
