Ominbar search query is autocompleted after pressing enter

Issue descriptionSteps to reproduce the problem: 1. Enter a real search query, and add some giberish to the end. Example: "austin weatherweathe" (keyboard lag). 2. Repeat the search, if necessary, so that the bad query becomes the autocomplete suggestion. 3. Type "austin weather", and hit backspace to clear highlighted portion of suggestion "austin weatherweathe" (delete "weathe"). 4. Wait several seconds (to ensure nothing changes an instant before submitting). 5. Press enter/search to submit "austin weather" 6. Watch as "weathe" is re-appended. What is the expected behavior? Search query should not differ from what was visible in the omnibar on submit. What went wrong? Extra text is consistently re-appended immediately after submitting. Did this work before? Tested the issue using #65.0.3325.109 on Samsung S7, 6.0.1 and could not reproduce the issue as per the steps mentioned in comment #0. Observed the entered search without any giberish text appended. @jbenjamin0001: Could you please update to latest version #65.0.3325.109 and check if you still face the issue? Thanks!!

@jbenjamin0001: it would also help to know what software keyboard you're using. Android Keyboard? LG Keyboard? Something else? thanks!

Thanks for the report. I think this is likely bug 398135, which is (sadly) hard to fix. I'm not entirely positive that it's that bug. The video is consistent with that bug. Happily, as you saw in your video, it's hard to reproduce. It has to do with timing of requests sent to Google's servers that ask for query suggestions. I appreciate the bug report! Please let me know if you see any other oddities. |
