||
Issue descriptionFiling this issue from Buganizer: b/73723659 What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Launched Chrome application. 2. Observed the shortcut on the device screen. 5. Tapped on the icon created from device home screen. 6. Observed that user is redirected to "storyweaver" home page. i.e. from https://storyweaver.org.in What is the expected result? Tapping on the Home screen shortcut should be redirect user to the page: https://storyweaver.org.in/stories?bulkDownload=&language=Spanish&level=1&query=&sort=Relevance What happens instead? Tapping on the Home screen shortcut redirects user to the page: https://storyweaver.org.in Chrome versions tested: 60.0.3072.0, 64.0.3282.137(Stable), 66.0.3352.3(Canary) OS: Android 8.1.0 Android Devices: Pixel This seems to be a Non-Regression issue as same behavior is seen since M60. Untriaged for further input's on this issue. Thanks!

I think this working as intended: "Add to Home screen" doesn't add a link to the exact current web page, but instead looks at the Web Manifest declared by the site. In the case of StoryWeaver this seems to be the manifest: https://storyweaver.org.in/manifest.json The manifest defines a start URL of "./", which I guess resolves to the top-level https://storyweaver.org.in/ URL.

Maybe the name in the menu option is misleading? At least to me, when I'm looking at a certain web page behind a URL, and I'm offered "Add to screen", I think I'll add to my screen the URL of the page that I' looking at.

I encountered the same issue. I was using a particular Facebook URL to access my "starred friends", but now it always opens the main feed. The fact that "Add to Home screen" sometimes adds the current page sometimes uses the website's manifest makes things inconsistent. I would recommend at doing a variation in the working, like "Add app to Home screen" when it's a webapp with a manifest. |
