Chrome hijacks default PDF viewer on macOS |
||||||||||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_3) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3282.167 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Settings -> Content Settings -> PDF Documents -> Disable "Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome" 2. Right click on PDF document on macOS -> Get Info -> Open With -> Preview. Change All. 3. Restart computer 4. Note how PDF default application is now Chrome again. What is the expected behavior? Expected behavior is for Chrome not to set itself as the default PDF viewer on macOS when the user has explicitly changed it. What went wrong? Chrome is setting itself as the default PDF viewer on macOS after the user has explicitly changed it to another application. Did this work before? Yes Unclear. Used to work fine. Now it doesn't. Chrome version: 64.0.3282.167 Channel: stable OS Version: OS X 10.13.3 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 28.0 r0 Confirmed on two separate macs -- new macbook pro and mac pro.
