Issue descriptionChrome Version : 64.0.3282.140 OS Version: OS X 10.13.3 What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Go to https://beaufortfrancois.github.io/sandbox/media/video-background-color 2. Video background color is red. Yeah! 3. Enable chrome://flags/#enable-modern-media-controls flag and restart Chrome 4. Go to https://beaufortfrancois.github.io/sandbox/media/video-background-color What is the expected result? - Video background color should be red. What happens instead of that? - Video background color is a grey gradient. Note that the video preload attribute is set to "none" in the test page.

Able to reproduce this issue on reported version 64.0.3282.140, on latest stable 64.0.3282.186 and latest canary 66.0.3353.0 using Mac 10.13.3, Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows 10. i.e; Seeing grey gradient as video background color. This issue is seen from introduction of Modern media controls flag in M64. Hence considering this issue as Non-Regression and marking as Untriaged.

It seems to work on Safari and Firefox so we should probably fix this but not a very high priority as I would be surprised many websites rely on this.

Dark-themed sites might have an unpleasantly broken UI/UX while loading the videos and/or posters due to the change. Some users apply a global dark/night mode theme via an extension to all sites. That's like millions of users, especially those with a slow connection. |
