Automatically save generated passwords without prompting

Project Member Reported by zea@chromium.org, Feb 16 2018

Issue description

I just went through a signup flow on a web site (on OSX, but I assume this is true across platforms?), and decided to choose the automatically generated Chrome password.

After completing the flow, I was about to click a link to leave the page, but I realized that I was being prompted by Chrome to save the login credentials for the page signup flow I had just completed. Presumably if I had clicked the link, it would have dismissed the save prompt.

I'm surprised we prompt at all to save a password that Chrome itself just generated, and which the user already opted in to using. This seems like it leaves a lot of room for a distracted user to accidentally not save the password, which they'd basically have no chance of remembering afterward.

Shouldn't we just automatically save login credentials if the user opted in to letting Chrome generate them?

The password is saved already when it is generated. The prompt you saw was just for updating the username. Maybe we should be more explicit in the UI that this is saving a username for your already stored password.

Ah interesting. Ok, that's definitely less concerning, but it does seem like something that good be clearer/more polished.
