I've experienced this bug a number of times. Each time, I find it incredibly frustrating. I imagine that, for newcomers, this behavior is even more confusing and really hurts their confidence in SOM.
When sheriffing, sometimes I'll have the alerts in relatively good shape. Let's say that I have 50+ alerts, but grouped in a way such that I'm down to ~10 alerts. See: grouped_nicely.png
Then, something happens and, for a few minutes, it's as if Sheriff-o-matic forgets that I've grouped anything together. The 10 alerts blow up to 50+ alerts again. See: ungrouped.png
Then, a few minutes later, it's back to being nicely grouped again.
The first time this happened, I frantically tried to group the alerts back together again as soon as it happened. Now, I know that I should just stop sheriffing for a few minutes until this goes away.
