Google Earth in tablet mode keeps bringing up the virtual keyboard

Project Member Reported by atwilson@chromium.org, Feb 15 2018

Issue description

1) Go to https://earth.google.com/web/
2) Put device in tablet mode
3) Try to use the product by touching the screen, doing gestures, etc

Expected: fun
Actual: virtual keyboard keeps popping up and obscuring content

Comment 1 by mmarchio@google.com, Feb 15 2018

Happens also while using Google Slides. Clicking between slides causes the keyboard to open.

Will investigate for both Google Earth & Slides.

In the case of slides, it appears that most of the page is contenteditable. It looks like it's for capturing focus/blur events, but not exactly sure why it's needed.

Comment 6 by shend@chromium.org, Mar 5 2018

Oh apparently there's already a bug for slides: crbug.com/673125. The contenteditable is being used to capture events like copy & paste.

Comment 7 by shend@chromium.org, Mar 5 2018

For Google Earth, the gesture event that's triggering the VK is coming from the nacl plugin in [1]. Apparently the plugin's input type is considered to be 'text', probably because it wants to listen for key presses like arrow keys and '/'.
