Reported by t...@ainscough.com, Feb 13 2018

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_3) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/65.0.3325.51 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Click on my name on the upper right of the browser.
2. Click "Sign in to Chrome"
3. Complete the sign in process. (No error occurs.)
4. Click on my name on the upper right of the browser and it still says "Sign in to Chrome".

What is the expected behavior?
I should be signed in.

What went wrong?
I'm not signed in.
It doesnt matter how I try to sign the browser in, the results are the same. For example going the the three dot icon and choosing settings. The Sing in to Chrome button here i greyed out.

Did this work before? No

Chrome version: 65.0.3325.51 Channel: beta
OS Version: OS X 10.13.3
Flash Version:

I deleted Chrome and reinstalled--didn't work.
I turned off two-step verification--didn't work.
I can sign into my Google apps account. I just cannot sign Chrome in.

Please help. This is really annoiung.

Another update. This must be Google-related because I also cannot sign in to the Chrome browser on Windows 10 or iPhone X.

I have one of the legacy free Google domains/apps accounts and I an the admin if that makes a difference.

@Reporter: Can you sign-in with your account on other platforms? You've mentioned that your account is legacy one. Has sign-in worked for you on older versions of Chrome?
Also, can you please post a screenshot of chrome://signin-internals?

Comment 12 by t...@ainscough.com, Mar 13 2018

Wow. Thanks for the signin-internals reference!

That showed my email address sign-in as invalid. I deleted all of my google-related cookies (literally everything with "google" in the name) then I went to:
https://chrome.google.com/sync
and reset the sync.

Now I can sign-in on Mac and iOS!

(In the past, I could not sign-in on Mac, Windows 10 or iPhone X either. I cannot test Windows 10 now because I'm currently out of the country.)

I cannot explain why I could not sign in on any device before, but now I can sign in on the iPhone X. I didn't change anything on the phone. That sync reset must reset something at google.com as well as locally.

Comment 14 by t...@ainscough.com, Mar 13 2018

PS: Sign-in worked years ago. I just recently got Chrome again as I was getting tired of some of the quirks in Safari. It hasn't been able to sign-in since I downloaded it in January--until now.

Really thanks to everyone that took the time to reply. The solution to these sign-in issues seems to be to delete the cookies and reset the sync. Maybe the cookie deletion could be a little less drastic than I undertook. Alternatively, maybe just resetting the sync might have worked, but I didn't know about that until I deleted the cookies and went to chrome://signin-internals which showed that syncing had just been deauthorized as of today (I assumed by deleting its cookie), so I googled "chrome sync" and found https://chrome.google.com/sync where the problem was solved.

Status: WontFix (was: Unconfirmed)
Somehow sync got disabled for your account (this is a per-domain or per-account server side configuration). This is why sync would not start.

I'm glad you figured it out. I go ahead and close this bug now as it looks like you fixed it.
