Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/63.0.3239.132 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Navigate to https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/index.html?extra=devchannel&platform=win64 2. Select Download 3. Launch ChromeSetup.exe What is the expected behavior? Dev or Beta Installs or switches What went wrong? Existing channel stub claims "your network administrator has applied a group policy that prevents installation" (See attachment) Google Update Policies are now blocking installation of Chrome Beta/Dev when this was not the case previously. Did this work before? Yes A few months ago Chrome version: 63.0.3239.132 Channel: n/a OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2) Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 28.0 r0 Our Google Update "Allow installation default" policy of "disabled" is now preventing the installation of Chrome beta and dev builds when we have explicitly enabled the install and update of Google Chrome and Google Chrome binaries through policy as can be seen in the screenshot.

Hi
FYI - Adding the following install and update entries for Beta and Dev resolves the issue. However, we would need confirmation that this is indeed what is planned to be added in your Group Policy ADM/ADMx.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Update]
"Install{8237E44A-0054-442C-B6B6-EA0509993955}"=dword:00000003
"Update{8237E44A-0054-442C-B6B6-EA0509993955}"=dword:00000003
"Install{401C381F-E0DE-4B85-8BD8-3F3F14FBDA57}"=dword:00000003
"Update{401C381F-E0DE-4B85-8BD8-3F3F14FBDA57}"=dword:00000003

This looks correct to me. Beta and Dev have been split out to allow side by side installation with stable channel. I will mark this issue as resolved than. Thanks for the confirmation.

Thanks but when do you plan to include these settings in your Group Policy ADM/ADMx please?
,
Feb 13 2018
With respect you do need to provide ADMX templates for controlling install and updates to Beta and Dev on Windows, as you do for Stable and Canary please! Thank you!

Thanks for pointing this out. I redirected your comment to the Google Update team. I hope you will soon see those reflected in an update ADM[X] templates.

Hi Thanks for sending this to Google Update team. However, your status "WontFix" does not reflect this present issue status which with respect should be still "Open" until we get feedback from the Google Update Team. Thanks You.

We are tracking the bug internally but I agree we can use this bug here as external feedback channel for the bug too. Sorin, I hope you don't mind owning or reassigning this to a team member until the templates are updated.

Thanks for the feedback. Seems the group policy template you are using is out-of-date. We already have policy settings for beta and dev channels. Can you please follow the instructions listed at https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6350036?hl=en to update your policy? Please see the attached file for how the template should look like.

Ok, thanks. We've been getting our admin templates from here: https://www.chromium.org/administrators/policy-templates, and these do not seem to have been updated?

If you follow the link at line "Google Update (auto-update) has its own templates as well, in ADM and ADMX forms" in the page, it should point you to the same location.

I'm fairly certain this is what at downloaded but no worries, we'll re-validate tomorrow.

Ok, that works. I know what happened... I was on auto-pilot and downloaded and updated the Chrome policies and not the Google Update ones. Very sorry... PEBCAK issue!

Thank you. I'll resolve this issue as WontFix. |
