Can you describe the reproduction steps in your case?
Yes.
Is lid closed and device in docked mode with external monitor?
Yes.
How long it takes to get in the bad state?
As long as I don't watch YouTube, it never does, but once we begin watching YouTube, it takes about 20 minutes. Again, Netflix + Hulu have never caused this issue.
What would describe best the issue?
Like the others, I continue to hear the HDMI audio output, but the HDMI video signal is lost until the Chromebook is rebooted.
How consistent is it?
Very...almost like clockwork. The last two times may have differed by less than five minutes.

Just a thought too: Could HTML5 video be overheating local components? I realize Chromebooks default to this instead of Flash, but I've also heard many non-Chromebook users have this extension loaded to force out Flash from being used: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/switch-to-html5-player-fo/cijeemficlakfpdjhknnpcgpbkhgiolf Are any of these people reporting this problem?

When you watch Youtube videos in docked mode, do you maximize the player video on full screen? If yes, does the problem happen when you do not maximize it? +Vin and team Vin, can you please triage and have your team reproduce the issue?

It happens in all three viewing modes: standard, theater, and fullscreen.

Marc, Your link prompts me for an SSO username and password? Anyway, if most if not all Google's Chromebooks drop HDMI video out while viewing Google's YouTube, could you explain the "Status: WontFix" in your post?

Hi mswindoc@, Thanks for all the provided information. There is a fix, and I believe is to come with next week's v64 update. This fix is being referenced in the bug mentioned in c#7, which is on different bug tracking system and can't be duplicated. In such cases we WontFix this one. Now, I am changing it to Fixed, instead, and will be looking forward to a verification too on my side. Lets observe how the issue will be resolved on your system at end of next week, and if needed we'll reopen it.

p.s., It may have been coincidental timing but, my system seems to have stopped blacking out on YouTube. Now this may have been due to either some patch released that I didn't notice (this could mean YouTube was patched), or the removal of the extension previously referred to: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/switch-to-html5-player-fo/cijeemficlakfpdjhknnpcgpbkhgiolf, resulted in some actual change? Also, I may not have been as patient this weekend, to allow it long enough to reach breaking point. At any rate, it seems to be behaving for now, but I'll keep an eye out.

It might be that you got the fist M64 update that fixes the problem to some good extent. Following update this week should add few more fixes.

When finished, will it also cover meltdown spectre?

Hi mswindoc, Can you be more specific what went wrong? Could it be different bug? How long it took to reproduce? Exact steps? Repro rate? Filed feedback(Shift+Alt+i)?

It's the same...watching Youtube, external display looses signal. I will add though, now it doesn't "turn black"! It acts as though the LCD signal goes off while the LED stays on, but turns an even spread of medium brown / grey. |
