Browser crashes whole system when viewing YouTube with HardwareAcceleration enabled

Reported by fkl...@googlemail.com, Jan 30 2018

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3282.119 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Have Intel HD Graphics 505
2. Start Chrome with Hardware Acceleration enabled
3. Start a YouTube video

What is the expected behavior?
The video plays without any problems

What went wrong?
About 1-2 seconds after starting the video, the mouse and Keyboard are nonreactive. The sound of the video continues for a few seconds before an ~100ms long sample of sound repeats continuously.
The computer is completely unresponsive at this point, switching to a text terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F1) does not work anymore. It continues displaying the frozen image until it is forcefully switched off (holding power button for several seconds).
