Screen clicks don't work on https://vr.with.in in cardboard mode

Project Member Reported by dbbrooks@chromium.org, Jan 26 2018

Issue description

Chrome Version:	65.0.3325.20
VrCore:	1.12.177372015
Device: Nexus 5X

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Go to https://vr.with.in
(2) Press Enter VR button
(3) Insert phone into cardboard headset
(4) Press down the "screen click" button while hovering over a video tile.

What is the expected result? Click works on video tile, triggering video play.

What happens instead? Nothing.

Does Daydream work?

Note that they probably need to capture the gesture and start then immediately pause play when entering presentation.
What about previous versions of Chrome? Are both flags set?
Labels: Needs-Feedback
Just gave it a try on Pixel Canary (66.0.3334.0), not working there either. DayDream is working.

Ahh, we actually don't support Cardboard at the moment... Which is probably why it doesn't work.

We only implement the Gamepad API Extension. Does Cardboard use that?
Owner: bajones@chromium.org
Yes. All controllers use the same API now (we removed the "Cardboard click" mechanism a while ago). Cardboard devices should show up as a Gamepad, though slightly different than Daydream since it doesn't have a pose.

Awesome, that's great to hear! We have this working now on our staging servers. It'll be updated to production in a few days.

Thanks!

The fix for this should be up! We have in development a big performance improvement coming in the next week or two. We've offloaded the water and particle in the gallery to the GPU.

Thanks again for all the help!
Owner: dbbrooks@chromium.org
Thanks, Jono.

dbbrooks, please verify and close. It's fine to do in the next test pass.
