ChromeOS feature request: Option for a simplified less resource-intensive task switcher

Project Member Reported by morg@google.com, Jan 26 2018

Issue description

Summary:

Similar to this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos/comments/5dfesk/is_there_a_way_to_disable_the_new_style_window/

I would like to have a way to quickly switch between applications/windows using alt+tab shortcut without having the OS generate and bring up a preview of every single window I have currently open. This is very resource intensive and often lags for a few seconds depending on how many windows I have running. It is very frustrating.

A simple flag or option in the OS to disable the 'fancy' task switcher would be great.

Use case / Motivation:

I use chromeOS every day for work on my chromebook. It is currently connected to 3 screens (two 1440p and a 4K screen + the chromebook screen) using a dock station. I often have up to 10-15 different windows open at the same time. Whenever I try to alt+tab to another window, it can take a few seconds for the OS to register the action. This significantly impact my workflow.

Existing workarounds:

None that I'm aware of.
