Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/63.0.3239.132 Safari/537.36 OPR/50.0.2762.67 Example URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pV80HdTKZE Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Open any video, for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Zxd4t0QLm0 2. Do some other stuff in any other tab, like browse internet for a while, read some text, and at the same time in the tab with youtube video must work the video and play 3. Do not switch to the youtube tab for at least 5-10 minutes! This is important, if you will switch in less than 300 seconds it will be very hard to reproduce the bug. 4. After ~300+ open any different tabs (any what you wish with some content, for example, reddit, bing, google, or even this bugtracker pages with content) 5. back while the tabs loading to youtube video page 6. Boom, the video image is frozen, after second and sound too, and stuck everything (only video, not page) 7. Only after 30-60 seconds the video by itself will unfreeze if you will do nothing... What is the expected behavior? You switch to youtube tab, and your video with sound should continue playing and displaying actual sound and video frame without any freezes, or stop playing at all. In other words: you are listening to music in a tab, and back to the tab and expect to continue listen to a music or watch the video. What went wrong? youtube video stuck, freeze, not playing, only page reloading (F5) helps, or waiting at least 30-60 seconds, and the youtube video will unfreeze by itself. Did this work before? N/A Is it a problem with Flash or HTML5? HTML5 Does this work in other browsers? Yes Chrome version: 63.0.3239.132 Channel: stable OS Version: 10.0 Flash Version: none Contents of chrome://gpu: Note: To properly save this page, select the "Webpage, Complete" option in the Save File dialog. Everything is okay. At Firefox the feature works fine without any issues with or without hardware acceleration. Hardware acceleration fix the issue! If I disable hardware acceleration the issue never happens again. The issue I can reproduce at all chromium based browsers: chrome, opera, cent, vivaldi and so on. At the same time after disabling hardware acceleration in a browsers above -> the youtube issue is gone... But without hardware acceleration impossible to watch 4k videos for example... Or play html5 games... So hardware acceleration is important.

Can you check Chrome Beta M64+ or Chrome Canary to see if this is fixed? We've fixed a similar issue recently.

@Reporter: As per comment#2, can you please try to test this issue on latest chrome beta(#64.0.3282.119) or canary(#66.0.3331.0) and let us know if you are still facing the issue. Hence adding feedback label. Thanks!

Yes, it is fixed. Tested on: Version 66.0.3333.0 (Official Build) canary (64-bit) P.S. sorry for 2 days without the answer. This is because I did not expect so fast answer to the issue and bugfix. Usually at firefox (where I came from) bugs fixed in years. 1 Bug report = 2 years of discussion and extra months for fixing it...

Unable to reproduce this issue on reported version 63.0.3239.132 and latest stable 64.0.3282.140 with steps mentioned in comment#12. @Reporter: Video attached in comment#4 is Unavailable. Could you please attach video file to drive and share the video with us? Also please check the issue on fresh profile which do not have any apps/extensions. This would help in better triaging of the issue. @dalecurtis: Could you please check the attached chrome://media-internals log from comment#12. Thanks!

I did not receive any notifications, and this is not about "no response", this is about missing delivery. Several previous answers get delivered to my inbox, last one - nope. So, anyway, I have some news, and I guess where is a problem. Because for devs it's very easy just to close tasks, without solutions, I spent a lot of time for analysis, and found out this: https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/media/+/master/renderers/video_renderer_impl.cc I talk about next code attached to the screenshot. Or to be clear about next function: VideoRendererImpl::OnTimeStopped and condition check inside it ``` if (buffering_state_ == BUFFERING_HAVE_NOTHING) { base::AutoLock al(lock_); RemoveFramesForUnderflowOrBackgroundRendering(); ``` Exactly this part is happen to me on Intel Integral GPU (HD 620) when enabled hardware acceleration. GPU report attached too.

Thanks for digging so deeply. That clause is ensuring that we catch up with the audio current time. If we don't do that we may be extremely far behind the current audio time. If you're hitting it while switching back it would seem to imply decoding performance isn't great. I.e. on tab switch we'll seek video stream to nearest keyframe and decode until we reach audio current time. 30-60 seconds of freeze time is extremely long though. YT keyframe distances are ~5 seconds, so even with a fairly slow decoder it shouldn't take that long. Are there any updated drivers you can try?
