Prompt got 2000 characters limit (default text in it), the same is with alert and confirm.

Reported by donislaw...@gmail.com, Jan 16 2018

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1.
use promt or alert or confirm, and as a defaultText put a text longer than 2000 characters, and it will be cut.

What is the expected behavior?
Chrome should display whole text, not cut it to 2000 chracters, FireFox/Edge has it implemented more "normal", this is usefull for coppy-paste text (long) from prompt.

What went wrong?
Chrome cut charcaters, got 2000 limit, it should display whole text, but cut it.

Did this work before? No

Chrome version: 63 Channel: stable
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version:

I use that way for saving my games (coppy-paste save) a WebGL games, all work fine, expect it don't work in Chrome, becuase it cut my text save (text save is as default text).

Oh also, prompt (user input) don't got limits, so why does default text got limits (2000 characters)? Firefox/Edge got no limit like those (or got, but a lot bigger).

donislawdev@ Thanks for the update.

Tested this issue on Windows 10 and Mac OS 10.12.6 on the latest Stable 66.0.3359.117 and Canary 68.0.3410.0 and unable to reproduce the issue by following the below steps.

1. Launched Chrome and loaded the given html file.
2. Can observe that the whole text is shown and no characters are cut off. Same behavior is observed on Firefox as well.
Attached is the screen cast for reference.

Request you to check and confirm if anything is missed from our end in triaging the issue.

Also request you to update chrome to the latest Stable 66.0.3359.117, retry the issue and update the thread with the observations.

Thanks..

@susan.boorgula@chromium.org
Thank you, sorry, let me explain it:
1. Prompt text got around ~4k characters (HTML file as a DefaultText).
2. Text showed in Google Chrome got 2000 characters
3. Google Chrome don't show all characters from HTML file (prompt, DefaultText), got limit set to 2k characters.
4. DefaultText for prompt, got limit of 2000 characters, FireFox and other browsers show full text, when Google Chrome cut it (it doesn't show full text from html file).

We can easy observe this problem, by using tool like this one:
https://www.lettercount.com/
1. use test.html file on Chrome, and copy it prompt defaultText, check it character count on this website:
https://www.lettercount.com/ (it will always show 2k, because limit is 2k).
2. Do the same on Firefox, it will show ~4k characters.

donislawdev@ Thanks for the issue.

Able to reproduce the issue on Mac OS 10.12.6, Windows 10 and Ubuntu 17.10 on the latest Canary 68.0.3424.0 and Stable 66.0.3359.139 as per comment #9.

On following the steps given above, can observe that Google Chrome got 2000 characters

This is a Non-Regression issue as this behavior is observed from M60 Chrome builds.
Hence marking this as Untriaged for further updates from Dev.

Thanks..
