Here is the feedback from the language POC:

"I can see that EVERY language uses 2 words for these messages - so German would be the ONLY language deviating from the source (also 2 words) and leave out the "tab". I am always uncomfortable with this kind of solution (if it is not required by character limit issues)  - shouldn't the source be changed in this case and all the other languages, too?
Because German is not even longer than the average."


Please provide your insight. It seems like that on this case, if all the character on the given screenshot will be change as what was suggested, some languages will be affected. We might need to leave it as it is.

in the linguistics the number of words in different languages does not correlate with the meaning. It i not possible to translate words 1:1 end expect the same meaning, so I suggest to prioritize the usability over this.

Currently I see two major problems on the provided screenshot:

1. Menu entries a hard to read when they start with the same word ("Tab"); I am not able to "scan" over the menu, but forced to actually READ them to see the difference. Just imagine the word "File" on every entry in a file context menu on your desktop. It is just WRONG from the usability standpoint. 

2. Inconsistent use of the word "Tab"; It is important to note that the inconsistency problem also exist in the English translation (see the second screenshot). There is a "Reload" entry instead of "Reload Tab" entry. One could ask: "What will all tabs reload?". We know this is not the case since we a in the context of a tab already, but then why do we need the entry "Pin Tab" instead of just "Pin" or just "Mute"? The difference to German is that in the English the word "Tab" is not the first word and it does not affect the usability at all.

In German, Second and fourth menu entries could also be prefixes with "Tab" to combat the inconsistency like this: 

- Tab neu Laden
- Tab duplizieren
- Tab anheften
- Tab stummschalten
-------
- Tab schließen

It would still be grammatically correct but also would make the menu even harder to read and make usability problem even worse. To demonstrate the problem even more one could use a German word for "Tab" -> "Reiter" or even "Karteireiter"
 
- Karteireiter neu Laden
- Karteireiter duplizieren
- Karteireiter anheften
- Karteireiter stummschalten
-------
- Karteireiter schließen


You see this is ridiculously unreadable, so the Argument with the number of words is just invalid in German because of the different word positions.


I would suggest to remove the word "Tab" (at least) in the German translation since it is not only not helping, but effectively reduces usability.

(On the side note: From what you are saying I guess there are far more languages than German where the word "Tab" should be removed from those menu entries inclusive English.)

"I have removed "Tab" from the 3 TC messages you provided.
And yes, this was my concern:
"From what you are saying I guess there are far more languages than German where the word "Tab" should be removed from those menu entries inclusive English"
=> That's what I meant, I guess it would be a good idea to create a project so that all languages check these messages and adapt them.
Also, the source should be changed, too."

The string has been fixed, we will be pushing this to a live version now.
