Tested the issue in Android and able to reproduce the issue. Similar behavior is observed since Chrome #59.0.3030.0 Steps Followed: 1. Launch the Chrome Browser. 2. Open more than 100 tabs. 3. Count of tabs is replaced with: :D 4. Similarly when opened in incognito mode, count is replaced with: ;) on tab switcher button. Chrome versions tested: 59.0.3030.0, 63.0.3239.111(Stable), 65.0.3322.0(Canary) OS: Android 8 Android Devices: Pixel This seems to be a Non-Regression issue as same behavior is seen since M59. Untriaged for further input's on this issue. Please navigate to below link for log's and video-- go/chrome-androidlogs/801786 Note: This issue is not observed in Desktop.

This is an intentional easter egg (a joke feature), since it's fairly unusual for mobile users to have >100 tabs, and once you have that many knowing the number doesn't seem particularly important :)

As torne@ said, this is working as intended. The tab switcher icon only comfortably fits two characters. |
