Randomly fails to prevent device sleep while playing video

Reported by teo8...@gmail.com, Dec 30 2017

Issue description

Example URL:

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. open Chrome after a while you haven't opened it
2. go to a web page that contains video
3. play the video (NOT in fullscreen), don't touch the screen anymore

What is the expected behavior?
Should *always* prevent the device from going to sleep while a video is playing

What went wrong?
At random times, it starts happening that the device will go to sleep after a while if you don't touch the screen, despite the fact that a video is playing. Touching the screen, pausing and playing again won't fix the issue, meaning the device will keep going to sleep every time you let the time interval pass.

Going in and out of fullscreen will usually restore correct behavior: even after exiting fullscreen, the device won't go to sleep anymore as long as the video is playing.

Did this work before? Yes not sure

Is it a problem with Flash or HTML5? HTML5

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Steps Followed:
1. Launched Chrome

Android 6.0.1

Android Devices
6.0.1; SM- G920IF Build/MMB29K

@teo8976: Could you please upgrade your Chrome to the latest version #63.0.3239.111 and check if you still face the issue? If so help us with the OS and details of your device for further triage.

Thanks!!

So I guess you mean you could NOT reproduce the issue.

How many times and how many different videos did you try? Note that, as I said, it's not systematic. I could play hundreds of videos without reproducing the issue, then sometimes I play a video and it happens. I don't know of a way to trigger the issue.

That's exactly the version I have. Obviously I reported this bug from my computer, and even if I selected Android as the OS, the bug tracker still thought it was a good idea to automatically fill in the form with information about the browser I was using to report the bug.

teo8976@, please provide the exact device model and Android version.
I couldn't repro this bug on my Pixel XL+Android 8 device.

Motorola Moto G
Android version 5.1

When you say you couldn't repro have you taken into account comment 3?
I have tried Nexus 7 with Android 5.1 and 6.0, also tried Pixel XL with Android 8, could NOT repro this bug.
As per c#3, this is rarely happen case. Please open bug in https://b.corp.google.com/ under Android section.
