⌘-C doesn't copy selected Omnibox text with iPad Pro Smart Keyboard |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionSteps to reproduce the problem: 1. Copy some random text to the clipboard. 2. Launch Chrome on an iPad Pro with a Smart Keyboard 3. Navigate to any website 4. Tap the Omnibox and note that the entire URL is selected. 5. On the Smart Keyboard, type ⌘-C (copy) keyboard shortcut 5. On the Smart Keyboard, type ⌘-V (paste) keyboard shortcut What is the expected behavior? The Omnibox should be unchanged, because the URL in the omnibox should have been copied to the clipboard in Step 5, and then the entire contents of the Omnibox should be replaced by the clipboard in step 6. What went wrong? The selected text is NOT copied to clipboard in Step 5 Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 63.0..3259.73 Channel: stable OS Version: iOS 11.2 (15C114) Flash Version:

The underlying issue is that the omnibox text is not really selected in the sense of the iOS selection. We apply a blue square in the background and keyboard events like starting typing then remove the entire "selection", for example (and IIRC). I think we could handle ⌘+C and copy the omnibox content to the pasteboard, but I fear that since the omnibox is focused, it is catching the command.

I will note that ⌘+V while the Omnibox is "pseudoselected" does in fact replace the contents with the pasteboard, so that suggests that something is already special casing keyboard shortcuts for this case.
