Regression after Onion Soup WebClipboard: Copy/paste broken in Ace Editor

Chrome Version: M65

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Open https://ace.c9.io/build/kitchen-sink.html
(2) Mark some text and hit CTRL+C
(3) CTRL+V

What is the expected result?
Copy+paste.

What happens instead?
Nothing.

I bisected this down to:
