Missing feature "Automatically expand folder tree when searching for bookmark and clicking on it" from the previous bookmark manager

Reported by vorak...@gmail.com, Dec 13 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/63.0.3239.84 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. open bookmark manager
2. type the search for a folder/bookmark
3. click on the found folder/bookmark

What is the expected behavior?
In the previous bookmarks manager, after you search and find a bookmark/folder, you could click on it and the folder tree would automatically expand to show where the bookmark is saved. From there you could then navigate via tree or via the bookmakr/folder, that was found.

What went wrong?
This feature is missing.

Did this work before? Yes 62 (the version before the Material Design Bookmark Manager was introduced in 2017)

Chrome version: 63.0.3239.84 Channel: stable
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version: 28.0.0.126

Please bring back this feature. It is extremely useful for me, I used to use it every day to navigate through bookmark structures of folders and subfolders.

Unable to reproduce the issue on reported chrome version 63.0.3239.84 and latest canary 65.0.3293.0 with steps mentioned in Comment#0

I tested this issue on Chrome 63.0.3239.108. This screencast is from an other Windows 10 user. In both cases, I didn't login to Chrome with a person. Is it even necessary? Earlier, this feature worked without registering a person on Crhome. Still doesn't work on my PC.

Able to reproduce this issue on reported version 63.0.3239.84, on latest stable and on latest canary 65.0.3306.0 using Windows 10, Ubuntu 14.04 and Mac 10.13.1 with steps mentioned in comment#0.

This issue is seen from the introduction of material design bookmark manager in M62. Hence considering this issue as Non-Regression and marking as Untriaged.

I don't see this feature in the old bookmark manager, I'm not sure what your bug report refers to. There's a show in folder menu option in the old and new bookmark manager that does what you describe. Clicking search results in the old bookmark manager doesn't change the sidebar in any way.

@ Comment 8

Sorry, I wasn't precise enough. As you can see in the screencast, when you search e.g. for a folder "subfolder" that's inside a parent folder and click on "show in folder", only the parent folder is shown and marked blue, but is not expanded in the sidebar, like it was in the previous bookmark manager. This is bad if you have a complex folder structure with many nested folders. In the previous bookmark manager all folders are already expanded at the beginning. That would help a lot in the MD Manager!

Also, as you can see, sometimes "show in folder" doesn't scroll the sidebar. Then you have to doubleclick on the searched folder. I think, this behaviour is ambigious. Might be even a bug from the previous bookmark manager.

Ignore the last passage from my Comment 9. It is already mentioned here:

Ok, I'll just dupe this into the other bug then.
