Black screen upon launching Chrome Canary

Reported by bsquared...@gmail.com, Dec 13 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/65.0.3293.0 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Start Canary as usual in Windows 10 (not in safe mode or anything)
2. Black box (if not in fullscreen) or screen (if fullscreen) comes up instead of browser
3.

What is the expected behavior?
Instead of the usual chrome window, the browser is just a black screen.

What went wrong?
Instead of the usual chrome window, the browser is just a black screen/box (becomes a screen if it's made fullscreen). The buttons are in their usual places (X button and three vertical dots etc), but the issue is that i can't see what I'm doing. I gave it about 10 minutes before eventually realizing it's just going to stay like that

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 65.0.3293.0 Channel: canary
OS Version: Windows 10
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 28.0 r0

I'm running Windows 10 and I switched the browser to compatibility with Windows 7. This seems to avert the problem for now.

I have the stable version of Chrome too and I don't have the issue on that version

Similar issue on Mac OSX 10.11.6.

Command: Chrome
Path: /Applications/Google Chrome Canary.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome Canary
Version: 65.0.3294.0 (3294.0)
Parent: launchd [1]
PID: 9264

Attached are partial screen shots of pinterest.com (red and grey one), yahoo.com, perfmattersconf.com (yellow and purple) and twitter.com (logged out, the orange one). While the modern art is lovely, I would prefer to be able to use the browser. View source doesn't work either. Nor do developer tools. Trying to "save" the current doc as a web page crashed the browser as well, so I am thinking this is more than a painting issue.
