TabSwitcher exit animation is not smooth |

Issue descriptionApp Version (from "Chrome Settings > About Chrome"): 62.0.3202.84 Android version: 8.1 Device: Pixel 2 Steps to reproduce: 1.) Open a blank incognito tab 2.) Tap on tab switcher button 3.) Tap on Tab card to exit from TabSwitcher Observed behavior: At the end of the animation Incognito text shakes Expected behavior: Existing should be smooth Additional comments: I made a video to demo steps to reproduce. Unfortunately I could not capture the actual shake very well, because my camera changes the focus. Please ping me personally if you want me to demo the bug.

Updating C#2: Tested the issue in Android and able to reproduce the issue. Similar behavior is observed since Chrome #59.0.3030.0 Steps Followed: 1. Launched the Chrome Browser. 2. Open an incognito tab. 3. Tap on tab switcher button. 4. Tap on incognito tab opened. 5. Observed that after incognito tab is expanded, text get shacked. Chrome versions tested: 59.0.3030.0, 63.0.3239.83(Stable), 65.0.3292.0(Canary) OS: Android 8 Android Devices: Pixel 2 This seems to be a Non-Regression issue as same behavior is seen since M59. I think this is likely due to the snapshot we grab of the web page. +rlandy@ - previously I would have cc'ed aelias@.. are there any experts in this area we should cc. +mdjones@ since this is tab switcher related.

This has to do with the compression we perform on the thumbnails. This appears to be the current iteration of the size/quality trade-off.

On second look, it seems like the dimensions of the thumbnail might be slightly off. In the cases I tried on my phone, the thumbnail seems like it might be a few pixels too large in both width and height, though this could just be a result of the compression. I'll give it a shot and report back.

I previously investigated this issue but gave up on trying to fix it since it seemed rather involved: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=748648#c9 Maybe it makes more sense to you?

That looks like exactly this issue! The other issue has Restrict-View-Google, while this bug is public facing so assigning to cblume@ (as the owner of the other issue) rather than marking this as a duplicate.
