Unwanted dialogue box creation when downloading images from 'Google images'

Reported by kirannat...@gmail.com, Dec 10 2017

Issue description

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Search 'apple.jpg' in google
2. Click the camera icon to display images only
3. Click the first apple image.then long press on that.then select 'download image' option from the coming list.
4.then at the bottom you can see a dialogue box with message ,"Do you want to download images.jpg again?"
5.check this for the other images too.there will be the same dialogue box .
6.if it is a PNG image the dialogue box message will be like,

"Do you want to download unnamed.jpg again?"

What is the expected behavior?
The dialogue box is unwanted.

What went wrong?
Jpg images are saved with images.jpg always instead of its actual name.that's why the dialogue box is coming.

Did this work before? N/A

I updated my chrome. But the problem is still existing for jpeg formatted images . For illustration pls try the following steps..
1.on Google search 'download orange.jpeg'
2.then click the camera icon to filter images only.
3.then open the first image by clicking on that.
4.then make long press and click download image option.

Now you can see ,

"Do you want to download download.jpeg again?"

Here is the problem...

For gif images also have this problem.for first gift image downloading it will download it.Then from the next gift download onwards it will show

"Do yo want to download unnamed.gif again?"
Can the extension changes of image files cause problems?

Am attaching the requested screen cast.please note that for the first download attempt, it downloads the image without any problem. But From the next try onwards the dialogue box arises.
#Also please ignore the audio.

You can try this for different search requests as mentioned in comment 7.some times you can't see the dialogue box for the first download attempt of image with a particular extension. For that cases try to download more images with the same extension. Then you can see the dialogue boxes which is unwanted.

Somehow observing the behavior as mentioned in original comment. Observed the permission bubble, this looks like intended behavior related to Downloads. Hence CC'ing @jming for further update on this.

Thanks!!

This is related to the fact that the images on image search have similar names, which you've noted. I'm adding others from the downloads team to determine if this is desired behavior and/or if there are plans to change.
I think that is not the reason. Because while downloading from other browsers the Google images will be downloaded with their actual names instead of such similar names. So I think it is the problem of browser.
Also note that in comment#2 as sandeepkumar mentioned this problem occurs for some chrome versions.According to his comment this problem was not there in chrome 63.0.3239.83 version.

I just tried apple and oranges on all the other mobile browsers and they all do the same thing as Chrome. When Google image search serves up the images they are all provided with roughly the same names (though there does seem to be some variability between download.* and image.* as the image name. The difference is that most other browsers give the user the ability to change the name prior to downloading whereas Chrome and Mozilla just download the file directly, which causes a naming conflict. We are working on the latter issue, but other than artificially changing the name that Google is serving, I don't think there is anything we can/should do about this.
