To clarify the bug a bit. The request is to offer way to pre-configure the "open this file type automatically" open which is presented upon downloading a file via policy.

Curious why this wouldn't be a windows thing vs Chrome-specific thing. Is the use-case that someone wants to open an .avi file externally via VLC vs Windows Media Player? And if that is the case, why not change the windows file association via MS Group Policy? If I am understanding this correctly, the only case would be 'when opening an .avi file externally from Chrome, do X- otherwise open the file differently which is set via windows'.

It's not about which app should handle the file. This is indeed OS thing. The request is to which files chrome should simply download and leave sitting on the disk and whish should be opened right away when the download finishes. Today you get to chose this as a user from the download bar once the download is finished you can use the context menu of the download item to select to always open downloads of this type asap.

To give a specific use case, I would like to be able to have chrome automatically open launch.ica (citrix receiver) instead of just holding it in downloads. I don't want every user to have to select this. I want to set this through group policy so that I don't get a call every time a new user tries to use xen from chrome.

This would be great for Linux as well if possible. Perhaps a list of mime-types to automatically launch?

For future reference, launch.ica from our citrix comes with the header Content-Type: application/x-ica; charset=utf-8
