Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_1) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3278.0 Safari/537.36 Example URL: https://512pixels.net/2017/12/2011-mac-mini-marked-obsolete/ Steps to reproduce the problem: Go to a site, observe font breakage. What is the expected behavior? What went wrong? Here’s the font definition from the link above: font-family: 'Lato', sans-serif; The site tries to display "⌘ Permalink" (command-key icon) and "RSS →" (right-arrow) but that does not work, since the two characters are not available in Lato and the sans-serif fonts. Previously, Chrome would find a reasonable fallback font to use so that the characters appeared properly. But now, .LastResort is chosen, so the icons become boxes with question marks. Note that if I change the font stack to something with support, for example to include Lucida Grande, it works fine. font-family: 'Lato', Lucida Grande, sans-serif; LastResort should be the last resort — only used when no other font on the system has the character. And my system has many fonts with a right arrow command key symbol. (My default sans-serif, Helvetica Neue, does not have it. 60 others do.) Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes Is it a problem with a plugin? No Did this work before? Yes Does this work in other browsers? Yes Chrome version: 64.0.3278.0 Channel: dev OS Version: OS X 10.13.1 Flash Version:

Unable to reproduce this issue on reported version 64.0.3278.0 and on latest canary 65.0.3285.0 using Mac 10.13.1 with steps mentioned below. Attaching screencast for reference. 1. Launched chrome and navigated to https://512pixels.net/2017/12/2011-mac-mini-marked-obsolete/ 2. Observed ⌘ Permalink only . Inspected and observed font-family: 'Lato', sans-serif; @Reporter: Could you please check the video and let us know if we miss anything. And also could you check the same on fresh profile which doesn'y have any apps or extensions. This would help in further triaging of the issue. Thanks!

I deleted /Users/kwpolska/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome and the problem fixed itself. (Note that Incognito tabs and new profiles still had the issue.)

You might as well close the issue, it would be hard to troubleshoot a glitched profile that I’m definitely not sharing.

I take that back. The bug came back today. Which is really crazy.

Probably a duplicate of issue 786777 ? There is a fix in Chromium revision 519943. Compare, https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=786777#c26 and https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/784473 64.0.3278.0 is at 519169, so before this fix. kwpolska@, could you please try with the Canary version, or wait until the dev version is updated past 519943? (Details for branch_base_positionin at https://omahaproxy.appspot.com/ )

Seems to work for now on version 64.0.3282.14. I’ll report when it breaks. (If you see no report within a week, consider this fixed.)
