Can't connect to Pixel 2 (XL) with bluetooth

Reported by burger...@gmail.com, Dec 2 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 9901.77.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/62.0.3202.97 Safari/537.36
Platform: 9901.77.0 (Official Build) stable-channel cave

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Try to pair to chromebook using pixel 2 (chromebook can see pixel, but pixel can't see chromebook)
2. Using chromebook pair to pixel 2 (confirmation code shows on both devices)
3. Accept codes on both devices
3.

What is the expected behavior?
Devices should now be paired and able to connect

What went wrong?
I immediately get a message on my chromebook:

Failed to connect to "Pixel 2".

The devices then show as paired, but they are not able to connect =

Did this work before? No

Chrome version: 62.0.3202.97 Channel: stable
OS Version: 9901.77.0
Flash Version:

Can I ask why you are trying to pair your phone with your pixelbook? This is not supported behavior.

I don't have a pixelbook but an ASUS chromebook and it has been reported for others as well (see the link above). And why would it not be supported behavior?

I can think of plenty of examples, but how about Smart unlock:

I am using an Acer C720 and a Pixel 2 with the same end results as the original poster. I am unable to connect my Pixel phone via bluetooth to my chromebook. I'd like to transfer files from the Acer to the Pixel without having to use Drive as a middle man.

If this isn't a "Supported behavior" , what are my other solutions?

Pixel 2 XL - Android version 8.1.0, Build Number OPM1.171019.011
Samsung Chromebook Plus - Version 62.0.3202.97 (Official Build) (32-bit)

Unable to pair the 2 devices together to use Smart Lock.

Similar issue with my Pixelbook (Chrome 63) and my Pixel 2 XL (8.1). I try to pair the phone to the pixelbook in Chrome settings (Set up Smart Lock for your Chromebook) and after a long wait I get "Can't find your phone". The phone is on and sitting next to the pixelbook and bluetooth is enabled on both devices.
Same problem with Pixel 2 and iMac Late 2015 running HIgh Sierra 10.13.2

same issue for me. Pixel 2 XL with Samsung Chromebook plus. My goal is smart lock and instant tethering. Same issues as above.
