Chromium Dash Feedback - Have to authorize almost every day

Project Member Reported by michae...@chromium.org, Dec 2 2017

Issue description

The first time I visit https://chromiumdash.appspot.com/schedule in a given day, I'm usually presented with the "GOOGLERS: AUTHORIZE HERE" screen, which links to https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=ah&passive=true&continue=https://appengine.google.com/_ah/conflogin%3Fcontinue%3Dhttps://chromiumdash.appspot.com/schedule.

There, I have to choose my @google.com account.

I get this screen about once per day, per browser.

I don't understand why this is necessary every time I visit the site (or at least, the first time I visit each day or so). Most App Engine sites only require authorization for my @google.com account every 30 days or more. And sites like monorail and gerrit, where I'm signed in with both my @chromium.org account and @google.com account, remember which account I've chosen.

This screen is present because Chromium Dash is hosted on AppSpot so that external users can access it at some point in the future, but we've yet to finalize all reviews & CLs necessary to feel comfortable exposing it to the public. So, we've coded our own login screen to prevent non-Googlers from accessing the page until it's publicly available. It's possible this could be coded better, but doing so would likely take a fair bit of time.

The date for public availability is coming up very fast - I'm hoping no later than Jan 1 2018. So we have to prioritize between spending time fixing this issue, which is an annoyance but not the end of the world, vs. spending time on things that are blocking our public launch (which will get rid of this screen entirely). My preference is to focus on the latter, which is why I will WontFix this and continue to work as hard as possible to make the page available to all with no authorization whatsoever.

That said, please reopen if you strongly disagree. I do apologize for the inconvenience, but you won't have to experience it much longer.
