The reported behavior is by design. Characters in the alt gr layer are [dead keys(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_key), they are designed to be followed by letter key, in that case they add circumflexes to letters. For example type the (` a) sequence to get character "à". The first key press (the dead key) do not commit anything yet and awaits the second key press. |
