Hah, that poll does not count - you can't just ask whether one wants some feature or not, the answer is always going to be "YES!!!".

You should take something away in return. For example: would you prefer to open DevTools as a tab OR undocked? :)

Seriously though, it would take an effort to implement and make it happy with the other features of Chrome (sane URL, sane behavior for beforeunload, etc.). And that's something external contributor will unlikely solve. Closing due to lack of resource / priority...
@pfeldman - The answer won't always be yes, as was made apparent but the number of people who clicked no.

Considering that we have the ability to undock our DevTools but not to have them as a tab you couldn't possibly ask somebody to choose which they prefer. That's like asking somebody who ate lobster at restaurant A but didn't at restaurant B which lobster they preferred.. They cannot possibly give an answer.

What we can take away from the question asked is that 69% of the 713 people who voted (~492 people) said they would use it (or at least would like to try it). That show's that there is some appetite for the feature within the limited section of DevTool users that saw the tweet.

If the answer is no because it's "too hard" then that's one thing but don't hide it behind an attack on a poll.. Also note that the tweet started by saying "Would anybody else find it useful..." I didn't ask if they wanted it, I asked if they thought it would be useful..

I guess we should stop trying to save the planet.. When polled people said they wanted it, but it's too hard..

The first part of my reply meant to be full of irony, hence the ":)" in the end and "Seriously though" in the following paragraph.

And serious paragraph explains exactly why this is unlikely to happen, very much along the lines with how you suggested to handle it.

Sorry you misread my intent.
