A11Y: Strange inconsistencies with ChromeVox and Docs when using braille on Chromebooks. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionBug filed on behalf of a user: Chrome: 62.0.3202.74 (Official Build) beta (64-bit) Sometimes I can get cursor routing to work and sometimes I can't. Sometimes when Braille support is turned on it will work fine and other times it will read the entire document when I keyboard. I have ChromeVox automatically read Webpages turned off. Yesterday I was able to navigate by lines with Space+1 and Space+4 in a Google Doc. It was definitely not perfect because I could exit the editing field and then not get back in with a Space+4. I did like Space+2 and Space+5 for navigating words in a Google Doc, that worked well. But I have not been able to replicate this behavior and get these commands to work since yesterday. "I have also found that I am not able to consistently type information into Google Docs using the braille keyboard, it shows up on the Braille display and also speaks, but text does not appear in the document. Also, I was working with it today and it started showing up in computer Braille code when inputting. Like a ? for a th sign.

I will triage after https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=789300 is fixed.

Confirmed. Also, chromevox stops interacting with the document if braille mode is switched on and then off again. While the braille navigation commands are mainly for the Chromevox reading cursor. It is not clear to the user if these commands should also function in an edit field or G-suite document. Many of the oddities described here are due to the way G-suite handles braille mode, but it might be possible to smooth some of the rough edges in Chromevox

This bug needs to be split up and written up as reproductions per issue. Braille commands moving by character, word, and line have been implemented in m65 1. specifically for text fields. 2. cursor routing problems likely to be a docs problem though a good reproduction here is important including text
