Able to reproduce the issue on the reported chrome version 61.0.3163.100 and on the latest canary 64.0.3279.0 using Mac 10.13.1. As the issue is seen from M50(50.0.2634.0) treating it as non-regression hence marking it as untriaged.

[Mac triage] Safari works this way, but I'd consider it a feature request. shrike@, thoughts on whether we should adopt this?

Adding ellyjones@. While nice, I'm inclined to WontFix this.

[Triage] Bumping next action til after new year. (FWIW, I think we should do it)
For what it's worth, Safari's behavior doesn't need to be replicated. I only suggest that the open link in new tab behavior be implemented when force touch is used on a link. It's an intuitive feature addition, and will improve the user experience by removing the need to use the command key for the same action.
