Regression: The tab closing animation is much slower in Canary compared to Stable.

Chrome Version: Chrome Canary 64.0.3273.0
OS: macOS 10.12.6

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Open 15 tabs in a new window
(2) close the tabs quickly via CMD-W 
(3)

What is the expected result? What happens instead?
The tab closing animation is much slower in Canary compared to Stable.

May be related to  issue 787049 ?

Also pressing and holding CMD-W has no effect in Canary. I expect that the tabs close one after one when pressing and holding CMD-W (like in Stable). Please see the attached screencast what is happening currently in Canary.
