Chrome PDF Viewer incorrectly printing PDF documents

Reported by abai...@ehvi.org, Nov 20 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open a PDF file while using Google Chrome.
2. Click the print button to go to the in-built Chrome PDF Viewer.
3. Attempt to print. Print preview is fine, but actual print job has information blocked out or missing.

Issue occurs on multiple computers and printers. Issue is not present when trying to print PDF outside of Chrome PDF Viewer.

What is the expected behavior?
Print preview matches actual print job.

What went wrong?
Actual print job has strange artifacts. Please see attached files for the 'expected' and 'actual' for what happens when you try to print the same document with Chrome PDF Viewer. Printing works fine if not using Chrome PDF Viewer.

Sensitive information has been blocked out with red squares. The 'after' image shows how much of the page has been corrupted.

Confirmed on a dozen or more of our workstations. OSX 10.11 and Windows 10. All on version 62.0.3202.94. The issue was first reported on 11/16/17 but could have predated that a few days. Opening the PDF with a locally installed PDF viewer and printing works fine. Also, printing via another browser is successful. Results consistently fail via cloud print or local print.

Can you see if this works on Chrome Beta or Canary?

Also, comment 2, can you file a separate report? Given that your issue is also occurring on Mac, it may be a different bug; we can always merge the issues later if they turn out to be the same.

We are also seeing this with users in our school district:

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/62.0.3202.94 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. View a PDF within the built-in Chrome PDF Viewer.
2. Click the print button to open the Chrome print dialog.
3. When document prints, sections of the page are missing which displayed in the print preview.

Issue persists on multiple computers and printers, and also occurs when using system dialog to print. When using Adobe Acrobat (either Adobe Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Reader DC), document prints as viewed.

What is the expected behavior?
Printout reflects print preview and PDF display. (PDF attached)

What went wrong?
Sections of the printed document are missing, although portions above and around the blank sections print out. (attached picture of printout)

Did this work before? Yes this is a regression

Per comment 3, Mac specific Issue has been created: Issue 787525
Mergedinto: 777837
Status: Duplicate (was: Unconfirmed)
Comment 7 - based on the PDF you are trying to print, you are likely seeing the same bug as the original reporter, which, based on comment 5, is probably 777837. However, please verify that you no longer see this issue in Chrome Beta.

To all reporters/commenters: Please open a new bug if
(1) You are seeing this happen on any platform other than Windows (i.e. Mac/Linux/ChromeOS)
(2) This is happening with web pages, and not just PDFs
(3) This happens with all PDFs you try to print, and not just specific PDFs (for example, https://www.adobe.com/content/dam/acom/en/devnet/actionscript/articles/psrefman.pdf or any subset of it should print correctly).
(4) The problem only occurs when using a certain printer or printers.
(5) The bug still happens on Chrome Beta, Dev, or Canary channel.

If any of the above is true, you are seeing a different bug with similar symptoms. This particular issue has already been fixed in Beta, but other problems with the same symptoms may not be fixed yet, so we need to track them separately to ensure they get addressed.
Yes, I can confirm that I do not see this issue in Chrome Beta.
