Blank white window when chromoting

Project Member Reported by grt@chromium.org, Nov 16 2017

Issue description

Chrome Version: 64.0.3269.0 (Official Build) canary (64-bit) (cohort: Clang-64)
OS: Win 10 14393.1770 (1607)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Chromote to another Windows machine of mine
(2) Blank white window -- nothing to interact with

It works fine if I run with a fresh user data dir, so there's something in my profile making it bad. This used to work just fine, though I don't recall the last time I successfully used it.

I'm happy to help diagnose given some guidance from someone in the know w.r.t. the feature.

Update: the following repros the bug:
- fresh user data dir
- sign into chrome
- connect via chromoting -- works
- disconnect
- shut down chrome
- launch chrome
- connect via chromoting -- blank white window

Trying to bisect now to see where this came from.

Heisenbug! I can't repro with the above any more. Maybe it has something to do with a finch experiment?

Just tried --force-field-trials to enable all field trials used by my ordinary canary install on a fresh profile and still can't repro. My original profile continues to not work. Again, I'm happy to investigate given some direction from someone in the know.

+some src/remoting/OWNERS.
Can you attach client logs from the failed connection?

Comment 5 by grt@chromium.org, Nov 28 2017

I'd be glad to. Where do I find them?
Sorry; I forgot the instructions:

* With the app running, repro the problem and then visit chrome://extensions
* Ensure that the "Developer Mode" checkbox at the top right of the page is checked.
* Scroll down to the Chrome Remote Desktop extension.
* Click the main.html link.
* Select the Console tab.

I am sharing the log with you and garykac@ privately just in case it has any PII or such in it. Thanks.
I don't see anything suspicious in the logs. Can you try running some of the graphics demos from https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pnacl-examples/mblemkccghnfkjignlmgngmopopifacf?hl=en-US and let me know if they work? The API > Graphics3D demo, and most of the larger demos listed under Demo are suitable tests.

They all work just fine as far as I can tell.
What's your client platform?

Comment 11 by grt@chromium.org, Dec 4 2017

I'm trying to go from a Win10 1607 (14393.1884) client to a Win10 1703 (15063.726) remote.

Alright, things have gotten weird!

It's been a while since I've needed to chromote. I've given canary another shot (68.0.3400.0 (Official Build) canary (64-bit) (cohort: Clang-64), today). I no longer have a blank window! Yay!

What I do have, however, is a session with some downright bizarre color effects. Note the two images here. One is from stable (lookin' good!) and one from canary (wha?).

Any idea what this could be?

This is the same machine on which I'm seeing issue 832538 . Any relation?

I'm going to close this bug as it sounds like the original issue is resolved. I've filed https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=835506 to track the new problem with M68.
