Feature request: setting to not make Chrome the default application for viewing PDFs on macOS

Project Member Reported by ccalo@google.com, Nov 15 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_12_6) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/62.0.3202.89 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Get a Mac with Chrome installed on it
2. Download a PDF
3. Find the PDF in Finder and double-click to open it

What is the expected behavior?
The PDF opens in the macOS native Preview application

What went wrong?
The PDF opens in Chrome

Did this work before? Yes ?

Chrome version: 62.0.3202.89 Channel: stable
OS Version: OS X 10.12.6
Flash Version:

I get that some people want their PDFs to open in Chrome. I don't.

The problem is that I can't change one setting somewhere to change this behavior. Every time I download a new PDF it seems some bit is set on it to open it in Chrome. I have to right-click the PDF, click Get Info, find the "Open with" section, change it to Preview (default), then click "Change All…". This is exceedingly annoying. 🙏

Note that this problem is not the same as disabling the Chrome PDF Viewer. I don't want to turn off Chrome's PDF Viewer. Sometimes it's useful. Rather, I want to make the *default* application for all PDFs on my computers Apple's Preview, not Chrome. And Chrome seems to be doing something to every PDF it downloads to make it default to opening in Chrome.

This is related to corp not Chrome. See https://goto.google.com/chrome-mac-pdf-default.
